It is looking like Fall around here...

... and that means college applications. We will really start focusing on college applications in October, but for now, we are getting ourselves ready by prioritizing deadlines for the applications. In the meantime, we are updating our mad AVID skills (notes, binders, tutorials) and really focusing on a good start to the year by setting goals for ourselves and the class.

Here's where we are going the next few days:
  • Tuesdays/Thursdays: tutorial, please bring a question and be ready to go when the bell rings!
  • Fridays: binder checks, don't forget to bring it to class

We will be typing up our goals essay and proofing it on Friday, with it due in class on Monday (9/21).

Great first week!

I just wanted to tell all of you that I really enjoyed meeting all of you! You guys rock!

Next week we have a busy and packed schedule: binders, Obama's address to school kids, ACT sign-ups, cornell notes review, buddy study, goals essay... the list goes on and on.

For those of you who asked: you can not sign up for the ACTs at home because Mr. Swanson collected your form! So, if you are trying to do that, we will complete this on Wednesday. Bring all the info you need.

Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend, see you on Tuesday!

Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho Universities Trip!

Wow, what a fantastic trip we had. We were able to see three different colleges in two days, and this included: walking all over all three schools, eating in school cafeterias, seeing grizzly bears, playing "bump" and a pickup game of basketball, riding on a bus for 15 total hours, doing a scavenger hunt that involved finding someone with an accent, almost being "eaten" by carnivorous plants, seeing "the pit," trying to spend as much as possible on a meal card without going over, and enjoying 26" pizzas. Great job all!

Mrs. Faxon's Class

Right now we are writing papers about a famous person in our chosen career. Already, the rough drafts have been turned in and edited, all that is left is the polishing for the final paper. This one will go in portfolios for presentations next year for the juniors. Don't forget, final paper is due Monday, May 11th!
